Maudslay State Park, Massachusetts, United States

4.5 (161 reviews) Spent Ranking #2 in Newburyport State Parks

Great park, lots of paths, peaceful with some great views

I rode my bike there, there's no bike racks unfortunately so I locked it to a street sign at the parking lot. Lots of great trails, some through the woods, some along the river, and some through remnants of gardens and past old building foundations. Beautiful and peaceful, it wasn't crowded at all on a Tuesday evening at sunset. I ran about 4 miles of trail and didn't cover it all, will definitely return!

Beautiful refuge for walks and beach
The refuge is open year around from sunup to sundown and there are different things to see depending on when you go and you should go no matter what the time of year. If you go mid July to mid August, you might have to deal with green heads unless it's windy. Much of the refuge beach is closed during the piping plover nesting season which is late spring through the middle of August (it depends on when the new ones have hatched and left the nest) but you can park at the first parking lot of the refuse and walk towards the beach houses along the beach for quite a distance. And after a beach walk you can drive down to where the paved road ends and take a walk (not long) to the other side of the island that faces the Parker River. Great place for birding in the morning.

Great place for a long walk
Loved the well-maintained trails. Everything was green and the landscape is varied. Be ready to cover some distance if you really want to see the park.
