Riverboat cruise

My husband and I enjoyed a leisurely relaxing cruise on the Indian Princess. It was so nice to sit back and enjoy the scenery. We were fortunate to spot an eagle perched on one of the tall trees and see the huge nest nearby. It was a lovely Fall afternoon. People were fishing, boating & jet-skiing on the lake. The boat is fully equipped with tables & chairs, a bar and squeaky clean restrooms. The crew was very helpful and eager to answer any questions. It was a lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon. The cost is very affordable for the hour and a half-ride. Try to visit before the cruises end for the season on October 24. The foliage should be spectacular soon.

    DELIGHTFUL CRUISE ON LAKE WEBSTER
A friend chartered a bus and had the bus company put a daytrip together for us. The main activity was at Indian Ranch for a sail on the Indian Princess. The ship had two decks. The lower deck was enclosed and climate controlled. It had indoor seating alongside glass windows. Most of the upper deck was covered by a canopy and was open on the sides and rear. Since it was a nice day with great weather, three friends and I decided to sit on the upper deck. When we left the dock, the captain began narrating. He took the ship across Lake Webster. He told about the Indian Princess. It was an authentic replica of a late-19th century Mississippi paddle-wheeler riverboat. It was built in 2000. It had quite a past in 17 years. Under various owners, it cruised the Mississippi River, Watts Bar Lake, and Fort Myers Beach before being purchased and moved to Lake Webster. The stern wheel was split into two sections. Each stern wheel had a twin diesel engine that powered hydraulic motors which turned the two paddles. This captain did not attempt to pronounce the lake’s original Native American name: Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg. The name is so long that the letters in its name had to be painted in a 180° arc on the “Welcome to Webster” sign. Underneath are the words: Home of the Nipmuck Indians. The short version of the meaning is: “Fishing Place at the Boundaries -- Neutral Meeting Grounds” where they established territories with the early English settlers. We learned that the lake is made up of three ponds: North Pond, Middle Pond, and South Pond. They are connected by channels. The average depth of Webster Lake is 15 feet. The maximum depth of 49 feet. The water was petty clean. We could see down about 10 feet. During our cruise, we passed several small islands. Long Island and Strip Island were the most picturesque. Two islands had large eagle nests. After we cruised past several lakefront homes in the $500,000+ range and crossed the lake, the captain pointed out Waterfront Mary's, one of the lakeside eateries. Later, as the ship passed near Bates Point and Point Breeze, the captain pointed out the Point Breeze Restaurant where we later had lunch. We enjoyed our time on the lake. The fall foliage was emerging with patches of bright red here and there. We rate Indian Princess at 5.0. We highly recommend taking a weekend public sail or doing a charter with family or friends as our group did. If you found this review helpful, please click THANK below.
