Wine, music & beautiful fall scenery-a perfect afternoon

Perfect combination of being outdoors, listening to local musicians, and tasting a variety of local wine flavors. Family owned and wonderful staff. Currently open every day with music. They have a nice variety of red and white wines with local flavors, maple, cranberry and blueberry to name a few. A very pleasant way to spend a fall afternoon supporting local businesses.

Beautiful drive out to experience surprisingly good wine at an excellent price
On Dec. 12, 2015, we traveled to Hardwick Winery on Greenwich Rd. in Ware. It was a spectacular drive but it felt more like we were in Hardwick or Petersham. The scenery was magnificent. Stone walls, vistas, elegant homes, historic villages to go through. The winery occupies a former 18th century farm. Architecture buffs will appreciate the guided tour of a huge colonial era home with but two bedrooms, and the fact that the restoration of the original farmhouse was done without adding electricity of heating. The home is now as it was built in 1796. As for the winery, the wines here are fresh, crisp, and fruity as noted by one commentator. The unique thing about these wines is that you can taste the grape in them. The cranberry wine is as fresh and crisp as a beautiful fall day. I am not a wine snob and I don't get bogged down in descriptions of wine which mention old leather, tree bark, or wet earth. Hardwick's wines are delightful, light, not overly sweet, and well-crafted. My girlfriend loved the blueberry wine- it is evocative of blueberries but not overly so. The winery has a farmyard appearance but also has picnic tables, vines to look at obviously, and a covered seating area which looks out onto the distant horizon. The large, expertly crafted (oak beams throughout- beautiful joinery) post and beam barn used for the bar/ tasting area was alive with live music last weekend. The $7 charcuterie plate was a great deal. the wines are mostly $15.99- the blueberry is a buck or two more but worth every penny. It was a lovely way to spend a sunny afternoon.
