talk with the experts

The volunteers provide excellent and expert guidance through the mueum with has so many exhibits that it would be hard to take them in without guidance.. In any event you can only take in so much on one visit and fortunately it is in a beautiful location on Buzzards Bay that you will want to make several return visits.

Well done museum and a scenic spot
The museum is composed of 100% donations from veterans and their families. When entering Ft Taber/Fort Rodman tell the parking monitor that you are going to the museum and you will save the $5 parking fee by parking at the museum where you will get a pass. The fort itself and it's history is fascinating and scenic and there is a walk where you can view the Acushnet River and Buzzard's bay, over to Fairhaven and Dartmouth. The fort can be a short bicycle ride is adjacent to a path that goes around Clark's Point where the fort sits. A nice addition is to head down this path to the right of the exit and follow the path until you reach the Harbor Walk where you can ride out to the gates into new Bedford harbor where you will see the NB and Fairhaven harbors and the historic Palmer's Island and lighthouse that pre-date the whaling period which made NB the richest country in the country at one time.
