    great place to walk off-season
I have to say I almost never go during the summer because I don't like crowded beaches. I prefer something a little more contemplative, and I also like to watch the birds. It's beautiful in summer, of course, but everyone else has figured that out, too. (Early morning and just before sunset are lovely, though, and not overly busy.) Off-season, the road south off the parking lot down the Gurnet is great for walking. Go far enough in winter, and you're sure to see lots of ducks on the bay; snowy owls may be present if you're lucky. Just keep your distance so as not to stress them out. There are several crossovers you can take over the dune to make the return trip on the ocean side. In the summer, parking permits will cost you - if you can get them. If you come to the beach through the Marshfield side, I think there is a lot where you can pay for the day (check someone else's review, though, as I'm not sure how it works). If you get to the beach early or late, you can park for free in the tiny lot on the west side of the Powder Point Bridge (route via Duxbury). In winter, they don't monitor parking in the lots. If you want to drive onto the beach or south down the Gurnet towards the lighthouse, you'll need a town oversand permit.

    One of my favorite beaches
There are few things that make Duxbury Beach attractive: 1. Easy access: It is usually just 50 minutes to an hour from Boston or the Western suburbs adjacent to I95. 2. It is a long beach. You can walk/run for at least two miles in each direction from the main park entrance. 3. Adequate parking 4. Facilities and food are close to the beach 5. At low and mid tide, the beach is quite wide The major drawback is that the beach is nothing but rocks at high tide. You need to check the tide tables before going. Even at low and mid-tide, the beach is not as clear of rocks and the sand is not as soft as some other beaches in the area
