This was worth the cost of the house rental!
Top 5 beach for our family. We were able to go because we rented a house in Chilmark and we paid for a parking pass. This is a private resident only beach, so you cannot go without a pass, which you can only get if you live in Chilmark or you are renting there. IT IS WORTH IT! We went almost every day, low traffic, awesome waves......

Lovely Beach, Overzealous Gatekeepers
Our 6th summer in Chilmark/Menemsha. Private beach for residents/renters with beach permits. Lovely, peaceful relaxing, beautiful. Come almost daily for a couple of hours. Great place. Recent experience at guard gate not so great. Despite permit on our car they would not let us drop my wife off for yoga for an hour and then let her walk on to the beach while the rest of us were parked there. Said she needed to pay for a separate walk-on pass. Insane, ridiculous, inflexible, irrational, Kafkaesque exercise of authority by small-minded know nothing gatekeepers. I realize these are summer jobs but that doesnt mean they have to be filled by the most inept incompetents.
