    Peaceful escape
The Mandalay Royal Palace and the museum at the back were impressive. After a peaceful walk of 45 minutes from our hotel (Bagan King—very pleasant) to the foreigners’ entrance on the east side, we walked through the quiet interior to the magnificent palace. The grounds of the palace reminded me of the Forbidden City in Beijing. However, Mandalay Royal Palace is smaller and needs renovation. The museum has fascinating artifacts, life size statues, photographs/paintings and examples of clothing worn by royalty. Many Myanmar people were quietly visiting the palace. Left about 11 am when tour buses started arriving.

    Not visited by many!
We visited the Cultural Museum in Mandalay and it was excellent. Basically given a private tour by the Director, a lovely lady who spoke very good English. The museum is open 9.30 a.m. to 16.30 p.m. seven days a week as far as I know. displays of Myanmar Pre-History, Yadanarabon Period, Myanmar Traditional Arts and Crafts Gallery, Buddhist Arts. Seems that few foreigners visit which is a great shame. Well worth the 5000 kyats that foreigners are charged.
