Panama Hats in all Price Ranges and Government Buildings
This is a combination shopping experience and museum. There is a demonstration area where the process of weaving a Panama hat is shown. There are numerous stalls with food, craft items, and Panama hats in all price ranges. The softer the hat, the finer the weave, the higher the price. The Ciudad Alfaro is a historic and public space created by the Government of the Citizen Revolution in homage to the greatest national historical hero, General Eloy Alfaro Delgado. His ashes are in a mausoleum that houses the monument La Gloria de Alfaro, the work of the artist Ivo Uquillas.

See the making of "Panama" Hats in Ecuador.
We got to watch people making the hats inside the centre as well as to look at the various other exhibits. It was eye-opening to see the workers bent over weaving the hats by hand.

OK Museum but Great Location
The museum itself is not all that exciting but this location has fantastic views of the town of Montecristi, an interesting demonstration on making Panama hats, a great Mausoleum (also for José Eloy Alfaro Delgado, former president of Ecuador). One can also purchase souvenirs here and look at an old train. At the small cafe, we purchased beer and empanadas.
