Flying over Funchal
The ride I booked was a round trip from Funchal to Monte and back, which in total cost 18 euros, the staff were well organised and attentively quick considering the amount of people they had to get through. There can be a bit of a queue so, if you do come try and get there early, however, saying that the queue moved frequently and our waiting time was 20-30mins. Once you get in you really do get spectacular views over Funchal it was a very smooth and enjoyable ride that allows for a number of photo & video opportunities over the Funchal/Maderia horizon. One thing I would say go when there are no clouds and also you probably won't get a cable car to yourself. But if you are in Funchal this is a must do!

Great plan!..
Lovely experience and great views!.. We were a group of 8 including 3 kids (7,9, 13 yrs old) we to take the cable car up to Monte and down on the baskets!.. Great plan ? highly recommend it then took a Taxi down to city centre but you can walk or take a bus, taxi prices vary depending where the drop off would be we choose to take ta i as we had Catamaran booked and wanted to eat something before going to the boat but peace of advice leave time to digest specially if you don’t feel well on open sea!.. ??

Great views but can get busy
The cable car goes from the centre of Funchal to the top of Monte. It is an enjoyable ride which offers excellent views over the city and the surrounding area. The cars are small so a family can have a car to themselves. I would recommend avoiding times when cruise ships are in port as there can be long queues for the cable car. Afternoons are probably quieter.
