A Casa Colombo - Museu de Porto Santo, Madeira Islands, Portugal

3.5 (382 reviews) Spent Ranking #11 in Porto Santo Island Speciality Museums

Small museum but very interesting

If you are interested in history you have to visit Columbus’ house. It is a very small exhibition and you get to see his home. Apparently he lived in Porto Santo due to marriage. It will not take you more than approx. 1/2 hour but an interesting piece of world history.

    Historically important ...
Despite being small, once the Museum has been set into in what once is said to have been Cristopher Colombus's house, it is still worth being visited. History is history and carries a weight in itself which cannot be disregarded, irrespective of the potentially limited number of artefacts and the size of the exhibition. I feel one should visit it with an open mind ... obviously not expecting it to be comaparable to any of the Museums elsewhere. I believe one either loves it for what it is, or hates it for what it is not.

    A little bit of history
Interesting visit to Christopher Colombos home on the island. He married the daughter of the first donatarian captain of the island. Tiny museum downstairs with some interesting pieces from a few centuries ago. The small museum upstairs provides an interetsing historical review of Portugal's involvement in the maritime expansion and the role of Christopher COlumbus. Worth a visit.
