Amazing place
Very cool place! Lots of history. The man working was very knowledgeable and told us really cool things. This prison was deemed “one of the roughest he’d seen” by Johnny Cash. Unbelievable this was used until 1990. Very interesting stop while visiting Lynchburg!

Very interesting and educational!
Although I have visited downtown Lynchburg many times, this was my first visit to the Old Jail Museum. They only request you make a one dollar donation to tour the museum. The jail contained a lot of history about the jail, a nearby funeral home (now closed) and other local items of historical interest. Without spoiling your tour, I will tell you that I was very surprised with all aspects of the jail cells. Although this is a self-guided tour, there is a hostess on-site who was delightful. Make sure you take time to see this small town treasure.

Old Jail
If you've got time to spare check out this interesting old jail. Leave a donation too. There are old jail cells you can walk into. Stairs no elevator if you want to go to the 2nd floor.
