4.5 (180 reviews) Spent Ranking #2 in Bad Zwischenahn Bodies of Water

Relaxing Spa town just outside Bremen, Oldenburg offers quiet peace.

This is ideal for Seniors and is in fact the choice Spa location for Seniors and people recovering from Surgery/Medical treatment sponsored by German Govt and Business Plans. It is also a rare discovery for Tourists who want to venture off the beaten track. Well connected by Rail and Road to nearby cities of Bremen & Oldenburg. The Boutiques in town and the Spas by the Lake are upscale and genteel with a clientelle whose average age is around 70 and more Motorized Walkers than cars!

    Good Restaurant to visit
Having bin to Germany twice, last year and the year before, we always made sure we would visit Bad Zwischenahn. The seenery and of course the food is something wich has to be mentioned. We visited a few Restaurants along this beautiful little Meer, (lake). Ahrenshof is to mention and so the Speaker, here they serve smoked eel, smoked Ammerlaender ham and other good items, we had them with bratkartoffel, (fresh home fries with onions). These two places are converted old farm houses into rustic looking restaurants, with wooden floors and big wooden beams. The servers are dressed in old North German Costumes, friendly and very help ful, don't worry if you dont speak the language, you are at the right place. Smoked eels are pre weighed and brought in abundles of about 12 onto the table, each eel has a price tag attached, as they get weighed ahead in the kitchen, here you choose the one to your likings, Bratkartoffel and if you like asparagus is served on a separate plate, you don't even have to peel the eels, you can have them ready, skinless served as well. The waiters come around with a clear Schnaps, to wash your hands in case you tached the smoked eel. After your meal, you have the Loeffel Trunk,( Spoon drink)They serve a special Schnaps in a large spoon, filled to the top, you have to hold it in one hand, the waiter will say something in Plattduetsch, as per before drinking from the spoon, you have to gulp it downand make sure the spoon is empty otherwise you have to buy a round for the people with you at your table. I was there last year they had a whole week of celebrating-Zwischenahner Woche- a street fair with all kinds of entertainment and of course food, many fish meals, potatoe pan cake, sausages and burgers. A few bands from South Germany and Tirol played music to dance by.. This was something new for us visiting from New York, even that I grew up near this town, never had participated, I must say well done.
