Go here first when visiting Goslar
I loved this little museum for the interesting history about Goslar and the impressive toy soldier dioramas. The free audio guide in English or German which comes with the four Euro adult entrance fee provides a lot of background on the history of the city, which is also told throughout the different displays which are very well done. My favorite dioramas was the series on the Thirty Years War, especially one of an immense battlefield which had hundreds of figures. You can also buy some figures or even some mini dioramas at the museum shop.. I only wish I had a little more time and started our day in Goslar here in order to get the historical background first. Highly recommended

Armies and armies of tiny people!
I got part way through this museum before I realized there was an audio guide. I wish the man at the desk had mentioned it. It would have been helpful, as I'd just done a thorough tour of the Kaiserspfalz and wasn't up to a lot of reading. On the other hand, the audio tour at the Kaiserspfalz was a big help in understanding the historical displays here. I can't imagine how young children would fare, as the displays were at adult height, and mostly very complex. Did I miss something on the process of making the figures? Did watch a man on the first floor painting a not-so-small figure.

Good English Audio Guide of Goslar History
The displays are intricate and the figures beautifully painted. You do need the gratis English audio guide if you don't speak or read German, but overall experience explains the historic context of Goslar very well. Allow plenty of time.
