Picture Perfect Harbor

When you think of the North Sea you picture harbors with traditional fishing boats. The Greetsieler Hafen is that image. The day we came, there were boats lined up on either side of the harbor. A few boats were just coming in from a day of fishing. Along the harbor, there are cute shops and restaurants to explore. I absolutely love this town, highly recommended.

    Picturesque idyllic & rustic
Greetsiel Hafen is a fishing port on the west coast of Germany. It is over 600 years old with picturesque alleys quaint bridges over canals, rustic and typical architecture and many historic gabled houses from the 17th century. Greetsiel has the famous twin windmills and the Hafen has an impressive fleet of cutters. The main catch includes crabs, flat fish and the tiny North Sea shrimps that live buried in the sand, coming out at night into the open sea to feed. Greetsiel has a relaxed and peaceful environment with pure sea air and my one of my favourite places on the Ost Friesland coast. The area can be explored on horseback, by bike, in a boat or in a canoe, Nordic walking routes on or around the dykes that are vast and empty. Super restaurants and cafes, great walks You can walk to Norden or past Pilsum for hours It is crowded in the summer, but we always visit in spring, autumn or winter and its beautiful. Definitely worth a visit. Highly recommended

    Very Quaint and Lovely Harbour
A lovely harbour in the town where we stayed for a week. There are many lovely shops and wonderful restaurants with the ice cream shop proving to be particularly popular! You can walk from the harbour to the sea wall where you will eventually come to a small man made beach and further on to a nature reserve with a hide before eventually reaching the lighthouse although that is more of a bicycle ride! Boat trips are available from the harbour and we took a trip the the island of Borkum.
