Felix Nussbaum Haus, Lower Saxony, Germany

4.5 (87 reviews) Spent Ranking #4 in Osnabruck Speciality Museums

A must see!!

Felix Nussbaum Haus – “A museum without Exit”by architect Daniel Libeskind. The Art museum is dedicated to the life and works of the German-Juwish Surrealist, killed at Auschwitz. Very interesting and must see concept together with Cultural History Museum (former Villa Schlicker of industrial tycoon, then NSDAP HQ until 1945). The Nussbaum Haus is asymmetrical with sloping corridors, odd windows, and strange sounds giving the visitor a friable feeling of disorientation; imitating the painters feeling under the NS regime or at the concentration camp. Nussbaum might not be famous, but his paintings and the building structure giving the visitor a glimpse into his tragic life. Before visiting do a bit of research or read the history of Nussbaum by the Belgian author Marc Schaevers. The audio guide is helpful.

Great combination of art and architecture..
The building was designed by Daniel Libeskind, one of the famous architect in the world. If you interesting in art and architecture you should visit this place while you're in Osnabrück, Germany. The facade design of the building is very attractive, with a mix of geometric shapes and metal materials combined with wood, particularly striking when compared to other buildings in its surrounding area. The interior is also interesting and worth to explore, it is able to show the intention and the meaning of the displayed art and painting of Felix Nussbaum, the painter. I highly recommend this place to visit.

Interesting art in a quirky building
Liked-the art! I did not know about Nussbaum before visiting Osnabruck and was fascinated by the collection, set against the backdrop of his unfortunate (to say the least) life. Highly recommended.
