Must see when visiting Metlika
Metlika is located in southeastern part of Slovenia and it is totally off the beaten path so no tour busses or "local" souvenirs that are made in China, but at the museum you can buy Pirhi (colored eggs). When you visit Metlika you should visit Belokranjski Muzej. Museum is located in old castle in the old part of the town. We started our tour with a movie presentation of Bela Krajina (about 20 minutes, in English). We spent about 40 minutes in the museum. This part of the exhibit focuses on the history of the area and on the ground floor of the museum there is also an exhibit abut the wine production. Also, just outside the castle is a firefighters museum with impressive collection of old fire engines/fire pumps. We were told that Metlika was the first town in Slovenia to have a fire brigade.

Suprisingle big and interesting exhibition
Went there not expecting much, maybe a simple history of Metlika. The concept of the museum is well defined, starting with a movie and then going chronologically in different rooms from one era to the next. Worth the price.

Local with a lot of charm
This is not a Louvre. It is an old castle with open yard and several collections in the museum. You can visit lapidarium for free, you can see the collection of wine trade or pay the entrance fee and see the collections in the first floor - short film and local history from prehistory to modern times. People from the museum are helpful. You can also visit the Fire fighting museum in the building left of the castle.
