Refreshingly calm and beautiful

We really loved our experience in Lago d'Idro in July 2014. The lake is "unspoiled" by massive tourism compared to other destinations in the vicinity. Beautiful scenery the surrounding mountains and hills offer is unique. Rent a boat and have a short cruise around, it pays off. The villages are surprisingly calm and "untouristy". And while the most tourists we actually encountered were in the higher age group (us being a young couple), we had a great great time in this amazing place. We staid in the Azuro camping site and will surely come back.

    Unspoilt, beautiful lake
Having visited Lake Garda a number of times we decided to try a different lake - Lago D'Idro. The lake is much smaller than Garda, and was freezing cold when we visited, but the surroundings and lack of other people visiting made it a great option. The water was very cold, but we did brave a swim - which was very exhilarating. The views from the lake to the mountains in the distance were spectacular. Though there were not many local conveniences, we found having a picnic on the shore was very nice. There is a small local cafe bar near where we sat, which does have toilet facilities, and there is also a car park right next to the lake. Around the lake slightly there was also a bar/cafe, which had a garden with benches, where we had coffee and brioche. The lake is well worth a visit if you are in the area.

    Drive though views amazing
Sadly no time to stop but drove through here from Riva del Garda and made a good alternative to the lake Garda roads. Amazing mountain views and pretty towns along the way we absolutely loved it. Big temperature drop from Garda so pack a jumper, it went from 28 to about 20 for us when we stopped for a pic.
