Worth it to view one of the most famous paintings in the world.

We purchased our tickets about 2 months in advance, as they sell out and are not available at short notice. We had an English speaking tour guide. Be sure to check when you book, as some tours are in Italian and some in English. There were about 25 people in our group. They were very efficient in moving us through the different parts of the tour, as there is a limited time to spend in the actual hall with the painting. We were able to spend about 15 minutes viewing the painting. It was worthwhile seeing such a famous painting in person, and we learned a lot from our tour guide about the initial painting process, damage during the war, and the restoration projects that have taken place over the years.

    Amazing fresco
We had set our expectations so high before visiting and our visit was even better than we expected. First of all book your ticket way ahead of time. We travel during the fall and the tickets were sold out a fair amount of ahead of time. It has to be much worse during the summer. This is not the place to walk up to the ticket office and just get a ticket for later in the day. It would be such a shame to miss this place. The exterior of the building is not awe inspiring and the area where the fresco is relatively small. You have to go though various doors that seal to equilibrate the temperature and humidity. There is no impetus to be in the front of the pack. The groupings are quite small and the audio from the guide was great and clear. You do have a set amount of time to view the fresco which was more than adequate. You are able to take as many pictures as you want and the lighting is great. There is a shop at the end of the tour. Catching public transportation here was very easy. Enjoy.
