A unique part of USA

Little Diomede Island is unique in so many ways and has a lot to offer visitors with many different interests. Its not easy to get to in either summer or winter but don't let that put you off. That is what makes it so unique and so interesting. People with mobility issues will find this hard, verging on impossible, especially in winter so please be sensible. Snow in winter can be many feet deep and oaths are steep. The local people are modest and sometimes shy so be polite and ask before snapping away on your camera. There are no restaurants and no public facilities on the island but there is a small shop (limited opening hours) and also a basic medical facility. The best place to head if you need help or advice is the school building. Its an amazing place to visit and my advice is that if you are going, get in touch with the island before hand so that they know and can help out when you get there. It took me 5 flights from where I live but I really hope to get back there again.

An unique part of the USA
As we finished our Northwest Passage cruise with Ponant, we were able to visit this unique community. Built up the side of the hill, homes, the school, the post office, cafes all for a town of 90 people who call this place home. Some of the residents were here during the Cold War with Russia and have quite the tale to tell. It is hard to explain how hearty the people are and how excited they are to show off their town and their life, proud to be Inuit and to be Americans
