This 1,5 hour tour will take you to Valkenburg's underground world! You will experience its dark corridors as a shelter in times of war as it was used by the local people throughout the ages. You will be taken into a nuclear fallout shelter from the Cold War, a shelter area from the Second World War and a refuge chapel from the time of the French Revolution! Valkenburg visit 2015
We visited Valkenburg for a day. The main aim of the visit was to visit the Gemeentegrot. You can either do a walking tour or a ride on a" train" tour. We chose the train. Be sure to take extra clothing,ie:jacket or jersey as the temperature inside the cave is 12 degrees Celsius. It becomes quite cold in there. A very interesting cave with lots of art drawings and carvings in the lime stone walls.There is also a very interesting story regarding the cave and the 2nd world war. Will i visit again - yes, next time i will do a walking tour in order to have more time to look at the art.

cool caves.
We went by train although you can walk. An excellent visit but all commentary in Dutch. Would be much improved with a translation although we were given a sheet to tell us more about the caves. Very interesting . Photos allowed. look out for portraits on the wall
