    Modern and vibrant
We were staying in San Isidro so only briefly visited Miraflores as part of a city tour. Situated alongside the sea shore it is home to many of the top hotels and restaurants and is the most favoured area for tourists visiting the city. If we had been staying in Lima longer than 2 nights, we would have moved to this area.

My favorite part of Lima, but still not terribly unique
I live in Los Angeles and love the beach, so I figured Miraflores would be my favorite area of Lima and I was right. It's pretty, but still very commercial. My favorite area was the park with the giant statue of the lovers. Nice views. And our guide said we were lucky to have a nice sunny day in early September, it was a beautiful day. As far as beach areas in general go though, it felt pretty middle of the road. To compare it to California beach areas, it's definitely got a more commercial Santa Monica skyscraper and mall vibe rather than a more rustic and natural Malibu vibe. So, as a self professed beach snob, I would rate it about 7 out of 10. In my opinion though it's leaps and bounds prettier than the bulk of Lima, which I didn't really care for. One odd thing to note: you can't actually get down to the beach in Miraflores, you're on cliffs above it. You have to walk along the cliff edge to another district to get down to the beach, which I did, walking on a small path right beside a major freeway. Took 15-20 minutes. Kinda weird. But a pretty area and definitely worth a visit! Be sure to check out the park with the giant lovers statue.
