Benxi Water Cave ... A dream in light and sound
The Benxi Water Caves are located 30 km east of Benxi, Liaoning province, China. Nearest intercity Bus stop Benxi. 4 hrs ride from Dalian** and 1.5 hours ride from Shenyang**. A day trip is sufficient, but would be bit hectic, if you are not staying in Benxi overnight. Entry fee was 180 RMB including sight seeing bus (nothing great, walkable), caves thing to see ... and rafting (The most important part of the trip), & geological museum (which we could not make because of lack to time). we also missed the trek to the hill top !!!! Easiest way to go there is to take the bus from Shenyang South bus station to Benxi city then take the shuttle bus to caves around 10RMB. Cars are also available at around 60~80RMB -- (bargaining must) (from Benxi city to the Benxi water caves). Available food and snacks around the Caves were very expensive, so best to have a good meal around Benxi city where the food was nice and clean enough for any taste... Inside the caves are very cold, even in september, but lucky .. big jackets are provided, free of charge inside the cave .. while going for the rafting (in motor driven small boats, with about 6-8 passengers) Be very careful of water sipping from the roof, so delicate or sensitive electronics gadgets, be best kept within cover. Trying to take still pictures, would not give good memories (because of the low lights and moving boat), so better try video photography. Weekdays are normally NOT too crowded Toilets were pitiful. ** Shenyang is reached by overnight trains from beijing ... and it also has an international airport, but not sure, how far it is from the bus terminus. **Dalian is reached by overnight trains from beijing ... and it also has an international airport. A small video is taken inside the caves is uploaded at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRTvbuGqFjo&feature=player_detailpage

Travel to Benxi Water Cave in Winter.
It is not a good idea to go to Benxi Water Cave in winter. But we went in winter. Believe me it was a real fun. We went from Yngkou, China to Benxi in car. Around 270 Km. The road to Benxi is awsome. You can see the rustic China and its beauty. At the Cave, the spot is awsome. You can see a few milion years old cave. It is well maitained and you can travel inside the cave with a boat.
