Museo Ruben Dario, Leon Department, Nicaragua

4.0 (135 reviews) Spent 1-2 hours Ranking #7 in Leon Speciality Museums

Birthplace of the famous Nicaraguan poet

Located several blocks away from the Parque Central, this museum is easily accessible by walking. There is a small park near by that has the full size statue of Ruben Diario plus busts of some other literary figures of Leon. Entrance fee is $1 or 37 codobas. The guide told me to put my 50 cordobas in a box. He just smiled at me when I asked him for my change. There are several rooms of exhiibits depicting the life story of Ruben Diario, his travels, literary works, books, bedroom, etc. Note that explanations are all in Spanish.

If you are interested in Ruben Dario
Once you are in Nicaragua, you keep hearing about and seeing paintings of Ruben Dario, the most famous poet and diplomat of the country. We went to this museum which was actually his childhood house. There were interesting photos and information about his life and his funeral. The story of his wives was really interesting.

Three hours round trip from the port
Leon was a side trip chosen from literature from tour operators on a cruise. It is a long drive EACH WAY on 2 lane roads occupied by slow moving vehicles. The museum is Ruben Dario's home and has many period furnishings and family photos. NO PHOTOGRAPHY IS ALLOWED IN THE MUSEUM. The building and courtyard are lovely.
