Colonial house, museum, and garden - all in one setting

Casa Galeano is located in a light pink plaster building in downtown Gracias adjacent to San Sebastian church. It serves as a local museum for Gracias and contains Lencan artifacts and masks and objects that belonged to the prosperous Galeano family. We spent a delightful hour here recently enjoying the exhibits. The highlights for me were 1) 3D models of Gracias and adjacent towns including La Campa on display in the first room, 2) the layout of the house itself (arranged around a pretty courtyard), 3) the decorative painted designs on the interior walls of the rooms, and 4) the garden of about an acre, accessed from the courtyard. A few signs remain in the garden, identifying some of the many plants collected by the Galeano family. The exterior of the Casa Galeano could use a paint job, but note that it is much more ornate than other houses in the downtown area. The fee for admission is 30 lempiras for foreigners and 10 lempiras for locals.

A spot in Gracias for History Buffs
We loved being able to see and read about the historical detail in the area! We had tried to visit before but it was closed, so watch out for the hours. They were landscaping the botanical gardens and it was raining when we went, but they are probably very nice now.

    eh
It has some diaramas and is a genuinely old place. It costs 30 Lempiras * ($1.50) to enter. You can see the whole museum in an hour. There is a small but pretty park right behind the museum.
