The most spectacular park in Kotka
The winter is not the best time to visit this park. You cannot see the 20-meter-high waterfall running down from the rocky hill. But from the hill, you have great views over the city or can explore the exhibition of Finnish stones used for buildings. The main element of this park is water which in the wintertime is usually covered by ice. You can cross the many bridges located in the park. We visited in the daytime but you can also experience the park in the dark with its special and award-winning lighting. In spring, the park erupts into life with tens of thousands of plants, which are blooming until the late autumn.

Beautiful short stroll by water, arts and plants
The park was smaller than I thought. The main attraction is the great waterfall built to the former ski jump slope. Other parts have just some garden area and nice pavement rounding the small bay. Anyway route has lot of sculpture scattered around and nice flowers and plants everywhere which makes route very attractive. There are benches along the route and you can spend a moment to relax and watch nice views. The waterfall is just fantastic. You can walk up to the hill both sides of fall and sit down whenever you want. Up in the hill there is a rock exhibition. Stairs are bit steep and might be hard for people in weak condition. This park is in the short distance from a city center and walking there is suggested. If you come by car there is free big parking lot Venesatama offering also cafes and ice cream parlor. Maretarium is just by. The park is must see in the city. Beautiful short stroll by water and plants.

Great place to spend 4 hours
Porvoo has more write-ups in the travel literature that Kotka but it should be the other way around and it is not that much further out of Helsinki. It is a really nice town and this park is great. At the top of the park there are polished samples of every granite in Finland. Simply amazing the stone that comes out of Finland. There are bronze animal statues and the water fall is peaceful. If you continue to drive along the water there are beautiful stopping points where the forest meets the water. We really enjoyed visiting this city. We also drove out to the point of land where there is a large bronze statue and you can look back at the city. Very nice place to visit.
