Breathtaking in it's Scale

The Hamina Fortress is worth a visit just to marvel at the phenomenal earth moving exercise that must have taken place to construct it. The fortification circles the town, part earthworks, part stone buttressing - and huge stones, no mere feat at all. We visited in October, during Covid-19, so the fortress was deserted and the canopy was not in position; this did reveal the sheer size of the open area though. It is well worth walking the circumference of the fortress and then carrying on along the top of the wall to see the other fortifications. Building and engineering that you seldom see on this scale today.

    Must see!
This attraction in Hamina is a must see destination. Fortress has a big tent over it every summer. Bastion is also doing many conserts and festivals. In vault is also a great restaurant Kamu! which is also a must go!

    Really interesting fortress
We were driving through Hamina on our way to another stopping point. This is definitely worth a visit if you are on the road and have a couple of hours. The fortress is incredibly huge and the town is integrated into parts of it. As others have said it really is a marvel of "fortress engineering." Worth a visit just to drive in and out of the area to see the fortress. We did not look at other areas of the town due to time constraints.
