Talana Museum, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa

4.5 (214 reviews) Spent Ranking #1 in Dundee Speciality Museums

Very good museum

A quiet and peaceful museum to visit located just outside Dundee KZN. Spread over a 20 acres the museum has exhibits from the coal mining industry, original buildings, as well has artifacts from local families and businesses. A comprehensive history of the area from the 1800's, through the Zulu and Boer wars is very well shown, as well as some of the transport used through the years and lots of original items in the various buildings. The museum has a memorial to Mahatma Ghandi who spent some time in Dundee. The Miners Rest restaurant is an ideal place to relax and have a bite to eat and a drink after, or during your visit. Well worth a visit any day of the week.

    Amazing museum
We just had a couple of nights in Dundee as a stop off before going to Nambiti. We wanted to go to Bloed River but never made that! However we did go in this museum - the site of the first Boer War battle. It was SO well done with so much information. We only had 2 hours to spare but you could easily spend the whole day here. The entrance fee was a ridiculous £3.60 for 2 people , if it had need £10 each it would still have been cheap.

    Informative
Highly recommend a look around this museum. An excellent glass collection & clothing through the ages. The Zulu museum is full of interesting stories from eyewitness accounts. Only problem was power was off, load shedding, so we read the stories with torch on mobile phones. Easily spend half a day looking around.
