If you come with a purpose - very good ... otherwise very little to attract

The route to the dam resort is part and parcel of the adventure of the dam. There are two routes - one direct a continuation of Blessing Ninela road that drops down the cliff-side in a series of Alpine type switchback turns ( all tarred) through a rural area to the entrance of the resort. The alternative is to go through Waterfall and past Crestholme and drop to the Umgeni valley and follow the road back up the river. One crosses the Umgenoi river several times on dridges and the views are good. Then there is a climb up the hillside where one can see the dam wall and then a winding road through rural area to join the other route some 4-5 kms from the entrance to the resort. Once in- either one can jet-ski, powerboat , yacht, or fish. There are limited permanent cabins available and numerous camp sites many electrified. But is boating and fishing is not your scene there is very little to entertain. There are zebra that roam free in the resort, and there are braai facilities for day visitors, ( Don't think of braai-ing a zebra though - that will get you into very deep water!) In the years that we have been going tpo this resort we have not had any unpleasant situations arise with the locals and although obvious care should be taken, it is quite safe - worth one visit in a lifetime !!
