Knowledgable and enthusiastic staff

Well what a great find, very interesting museum depicting the lives of a wealthy family in the 19th century. The staff were excellent and really took time to take us through the museum. The two ladies were extremely knowledgable, personable and had a sense of humour which made the visit all the more pleasant.

A real gem of a museum at a good price. Best to spend at least an hour here to get to know it.
I am a middle-aged British guy travelling with my similar aged friends. We walked through the castle grounds on a Wednesday (5/7) late afternoon on our way to the waterfall. I saw the impressive house and museum sign and enquired about the price - €1.50 so a no brainier. It was sunny (rare) outside and my friends wanted to go to the waterfall direct so we separated. It was 17:30 and the museum closed at 18:00 so I took a chance. The jolly receptionists, dressed in late Victorian clothes, told me to start on second floor (first for us Brits) and go up to the third after. I ascended the stairs to find a beautifully kept and presented upper middle class environment of furniture, fittings and artefacts. Each room had something to offer and in some a nicely produced booklet in English explained the artefacts. Laminated sheets in English described the room in general. The furnishings were quite impressive in a domestic way. The views too! The card cabinet particularly fascinating with slide out trays of all sorts of designs including forfeit games! Upstairs was shared between a timeline of the history of the town with artefacts and pictures (very interesting) and an exhibition on a famous Latvian actor turned director. Very interesting if one is into films but nicely put together though. The timeline included artefacts found in the castle area. Follow the line from room to room and try not to get confused. I finished at 17:55 in time to see the staff out of their costumes and in civilian clothes to enjoy the good weather outside for once! Don't forget to sign the visitors' book with the quill! A real gem of a museum at a good price. Best to spend at least an hour here to get to know it.

    An interesting museum
We really enjoyed visiting this museum this Summer. The second floor is our favorite. It felt like stepping into a sagacious period. The furniture is elegant! The interior decoration is fantastic!
