Iconic and beautiful
Once the largest castle in Japan when originally built in the 1580s, this castle has an observation platform with city views and a history museum that uses holograms, 3D pictures and other technologies to describe the history of the castle and the period during which it was built.

History and Scenic Views
The Osaka Castle is a great place to visit to get a bit of a history lesson and get some great views of the city through the observation deck on the 8th floor. The entry fee is 600Yen per adult, which can be purchased at the base of the Castle through ticket machines. You then proceed up the stairs on the castle entrance where you can stay left to take an elevator to the 5th floor or go right to take the stairs up. To avoid the crowds, take the stairs on the side instead of the main middle ones. Be sure to pay attention to the direction of stairs as well. It is recommended to start on the 8th floor and work your way down. As you get to each floor (7, 5, 4, 3, 2) follow the arrow (left) to catch the flow of the exhibits. It was pretty busy when we went so we primarily took pictures from the top and saw what we could from exhibits. I’d much prefer the ground level and catching the scenery around the park instead.

A lot better in person.
This castle land area is massive. You can see it all in one day, but it will take at least 3-4 hours. Maybe even 5 hours or more if you are walking and stopping everywhere and taking in the scenery and reading the plaques with information. The castle is very tall, taller than it appears in pictures. Very well maintained and beautifully preserved. It was closed due to winter, but still cool to check out. Summer is when you want to come here apparently since everything is open then and flower gardens everywhere. Fellas, if your in Japan, plan a trip here for your lady in the summer. I know I will. The souvenir building had plenty of small shops to get something as well as a a few places to eat or just grab coffee. Huge courtyard as well if you just want to hang out. Awesome visit. Will be back in the summer in the future.
