Experience

Nearest station is Nara then take bus number 2(get of at todaji temple) which cost 220 yen then walk 300 meter otherwise walk 1.5km from train station. Suggest to take bus there then walk back when finish as after that can enjoy the stroll and look around the area which have quite a number of food and shopping options. Advise to bring a small plastic bag/trash bag so when you brought the biscuits to feed the deer(200 yen) you can open up the packaging then pour everything in and hide inside your pocket otherwise there a chance of clothes being bitten(saliva), head butt and swarm by a crowd of deer.

    A Deer Place
Nice place to see hundreds of deer roaming around freely. The park is huge and you don't have to circle the whole compound. Most tourists are concentrated around the Todaiji temple area. A short bus ride from Nara JR station to this park only cost JPY 220.

Come for the deer, stay for the rich history and culture
Nara Park is most famous for its many deer, which are unafraid of humans and can even be hand-fed crackers, available to purchase all around the park. While the deer are incredible (and sometimes a bit scary when you have food!), the park itself is incredibly beautiful. Nara Park is adjacent to the stunning Tōdai-ji, Kōfuku-ji and Kasuga shrines. It's also dotted with lanterns and statues that make you feel connected to Japan's history and spiritualism. I was not expecting this place to be the highlight of my entire trip to Japan but it was. It's a very serene place and has so much to see for those interested in the religion and history of the country, The deer are incredible but Nara Park has even more to offer. My only word of advice to those visiting is that, due to Nara's hooved inhabitants, there aren't many places to get food in the park itself. It is also recommended that you don't bring your own food or at least keep it out of sight. This isn't a complaint because I completely understand why there's a lack of eateries but it is important for visitors to know in advance where they want to eat, because it's a potentially long walk through the park to find food.
