enormous complex of shopping, dining, and (of course) trains
we enjoyed ramen in the "ramen neighborhood" on the 10th floor, as well as an udon-based meal on another floor of this cavernous building. the JR office capably makes even the most complicated reservations for passholders and features a dedicated desk for foreigners. one of the last nights we were there, the grand staircase had an illumination program, and we spent a while watching the LEDs light up in time with a pleasant soundtrack. there's always something new and exciting to discover, or at least that was our experience during our week in kyoto!

    Fall in Kyoto
Kyoto is an amazing city with plenty to do. November is a tricky time as it is starting to get cool and rainy. On a good day the fall colours are spectacular. Transport is easy to use and affordable. The shrines, and temples are busy and filled mainly my Japanese. There is an opportunity to rent kimono’s at the local stores before entering the shrines. The markets are a fun way to eat and browse Restaurant reservations are a must at high end spots. People are helpful and very polite
