An Afternoon of Fun at Megaton
Houston’s craft beer scene continues to evolve and improve. New craft breweries continue to open, some of them in suburbs that didn’t enjoy a craft brewery of their own previously. Kingwood, Texas is one of the more recent suburbs to witness the opening of a craft brewery, and that brewery is Megaton, established in 2019. Megaton Brewery is a military/steampunk themed brewing operation and the only brewery I can think of that incorporates a theme such as this. The facility is spacious, with outdoor and indoor seating and an indoor and outdoor bar. Music plays softly in the background- loud enough to hear, but not so loud that it interferes with conversation. If you like to play video games, they have many of them and this is part of what makes Megaton popular not just with adults, but also with families. Megaton has a nice variety of beers and all are high quality. I usually like to order flights of beer when I visit a brewery and one cool thing here is the flight display. Rather than a simple paddle- shaped wooden board, they use a really cool looking platform shaped like a mechanical gear with a large, pipe- like handle. This is a great idea not just because it looks cool, but also because it makes it extremely easy to pick up your flight and move it to another table. And considering there is both outdoor and indoor space, you might find that you want to move around as your visit progresses. Megaton Brewery keeps everything clean and presentable and it’s a generally welcoming place overall. A little more attention to customers needs would be nice, since it seems like it takes a while to get served and refilled. Other than that, I like Megaton Brewery for many reasons. The atmosphere, the good variety of beers to try, and the games and music are enough to earn this establishment an easy recommendation.

A pleasant place to hang during a pandemic!
I was thrilled to find them open on a very rainy afternoon in the middle of the Covid-19 buzz kill. It was the 614th brewery added to my brewery visit spreadsheet. The beers were very good with lots of character. My sister and I shared a flight as we always do on our new brewery visits. We were not disappointed with any of them. The imperial stout was really good. The IPA was what we were looking for in an IPA. The blonde was refreshing. The pale ale pack a lot of flavor. I will be back for full pours!
