Sirinhorn Museum is better than Phu Wiang Museum
Phu Wiang is an older museum and the exhibits with detailed information provided are similiar to those in Srinhorn Museum, which is a "revised & modified" version. There are 4 excavated sites located in Phu Wiang National Park that are available for visitors to visit. However, you will need a transport to get from the museum to its park.

    If you're in Khon Kaen...
It's an hour and a half out of Khon Kaen city proper, but it's one of the only touristy destinations in the province. I'll note that the dual-pricing system is in full effect here - foreigners pay 60 baht while Thais pay 20 baht. It's worth the admission cost, though, and it's bound to delight the kids and the science-minded folks. The English is excellent (not often seen outside of Bangkok), and there's enough exhibits to make it worth an hour or so.
