What a Gem-Far Exceeded My Expectations
I had come to Texas to see the wildflowers and this was the perfect place for a non Texan to learn about native plants and wildlife in the area. Located near the confluence of Town Creek and the Guadalupe River with huge bald cypress (one was 300 inches in circumference) lining the banks, it was a lovely setting for a walk (trails down to the river may be too steep for a wheelchair or a visitor with mobility problems but you can see the area from the top without hiking down to the river). The area surrounding the visitor center has walking paths (accessible for wheelchairs and strollers) that meander through wildflower meadows and butterfly gardens where plants are clearly identified and there are places to stop and take in the beauty. Inside there are exhibits on nature as well as on the cultural and natural history of the area. A specisl exhibit "Footprints: Changes Over Time" was featured while I was there. It was wonderful and I could not believe it had been prepared by the local staff. The staff was most heloful in recommending what to see on my first visit and there was a gift shop, There is no admittance fee, but donations are welcome. I highly recommend a visit here for nature lovers and look forward to visiting again next year.

    Nice exhibits.
I would have given this 5 stars but I was a little disappointed in the outdoor gardens. No fault of the center as it was still cold and dormant. I think this is a great place to see. With a lot of prehistoric artifacts. If I lived here I would go here on a regular basis because it is hard to see all the things and learn about it in one trip. I highly suggest all locals become members! This is a great community perk!
