Limahuli Garden and Preserve, Hawaii, United States

Worth the time and money
If you love nature, you will appreciate this preserve. They provide a booklet that describes the items along the path. I especially appreciated learning about how they have preserved native plants from the interior of the island that are near extinction and impact of immigration to the island. A reservation is a must, as parking and access is limited.

Not to be missed!
Driving to the end of the road on the North side of Kauai, we arrived at Limahuli Garden in the pouring rain. After all, this is a tropical botanical garden! It was one of the best experiences in our 2 weeks in Kauai. The garden was virtually empty so we really had the place to ourselves. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We were able to do a self-guided tour of this very special garden. It was an authentic Hawaiian landscape, with the tropical weather to go with it! One of the most meaningful exhibits was the one showing the "canoe plants", which showcased the plants that were brought by canoe when the early people settled in Hawaii. It is a lovely peaceful place. It takes about two hours to tour it but you can easily spend longer. And the adventure getting there driving across one lane bridges was just as much fun. I would definitely go back once they open up the guided tours, as I would like to hear more about the native and endangered species.

A special place
Really loved this garden devoted to preserving native Hawaiian plants. It's a stunning setting that will have you reaching for your phone camera again and again. May be challenging with younger kids, but the serenity of this valley really is wonderful
