The Sledge Hammer
If you are looking for the Alaskan King Salmon fishing trip of a lifetime look no further- Evan Sledge or “the sledge hammer” as we call him, will put you on the fish. The hammer had us on our first king an hour into the trip. Fishing with the hammer felt like we were fishing with a lifelong buddy. Can’t wait to get back up for another adventure with him.

Kasilof King Salmon fishing during Covid-19, 2020.
Went with TJ on Monday and Evan on Tuesday (6/15 & 6/16/20). On top of the Covid mess, the state wasn't getting the King Salmon migration numbers that they expected so instead of closing the season outright they put restrictions on the season. Alaska did away with the use of bait, required single hook artificial bait or flies and only hatchery fish could be kept. Managed to catch a nice King late in the day on Monday but had to release it since it was wild, not hatchery. Funny or strange part about the release was the King took a wrong turn into shallow water and an eagle swooped down and grabbed him. My fishing buddy got a short strike on Tuesday and that was it. TJ and Evan rowed most of the day and really did everything they could to put us on Kings but the migration just wasn't strong enough.

Fishing trip of a lifetime!
My son who is stationed at Elmendorf in Anchorage, treated his brother and I to a guided fishing trip with Sledge Outfitters. Evan Sledge's in depth experience on the Kasilof put us into a mess of sockeye!
