I rode a bike and then walked up there, felt really tired but it's worth it. Only few people were there, so tranquil. Truely a hidden gem!

Oh Dam...we can make it!
Free bike rental from Kashiwaya Ryokan. Rose up to the dam. It is gigantic! Walked our bikes up the switchbacks to the lake. Unique blue water. What a view! Not disappointed at all. Beautiful historical place on earth. Said the town and hot springs has been visited since year 989. Worth the short trek! (Lake on other side of dam)

An enchanting cobalt blue lake
Oku-Shima Lake, located at the innermost point of Shiman Onsen in Gunma Prefecture, is a dammed lake made by the Shima River Dam. The water here is a mysterious cobalt blue color as shown in the photo. It has a blue color. It was featured on a poster advertising East Japan Railway in 2020. It's about an hour's drive from Kusatsu Onsen, and if you have time, we recommend stopping by.
