Going Down to Experience a Salt Mine
What an interesting mine tour. I took the plus tour. It starts by going down in the earth. Once down there was a large open mine museum, which is self guided Displays, videos and informative staff. And 2 mind tramp rides . Both have guides. Taking tour 3 for extra fee, took the tram into a long non lit ride in the mine . Everyone was given a flashlight, the guide had a head lamp and the rest was dark. Definite worthy visit, educational and great rides.

    An experience worth its salt.
A great way to see how the salt that goes on your roads in winter gets out of the ground. Pretty much everything about this experience was top-notch. The geology was well-explained (and accurate), and the exhibits on how the mining is done were excellent. If you visit, I strongly recommend paying the extra $12 for the “Salt Safari”; it gets you an hour-long excursion through parts of the mine that were excavated in the 1950’s. It’s almost like a time capsule, and you learn a lot more about how the mining itself is done. If you find yourself traveling across southern Kansas, it’s well worth a diversion to come here.
