    Very nice zoo
This zoo has spent alot of money on upgrades to the exhibits. They have an amazing big cat area and one of the largest elephant ? areas we have ever seen. We are from Kansas City and this puts our zoo to shame. They also have the wild lights going on right now and overall this is the best zoo in a 5 hour radius.

    A quality zoo
So I'll get the annoyances out of the way first. We find out at the entrance that neither the boat or train are running (we visited on a Sunday). This was a genuine disappointment; for our toddler both of these attractions are a big deal. Neither closure was mentioned on the website. We are told that the train reopens on July 22. As for the boat, one staff member told us they close it in hot summer temperatures, so who knows. SCZ: please make this information explicit on the website. Now the positives: the zoo has beautiful landscaping with a decent amount of shady places and some air-conditioned buildings. Exhibits are up to modern standards and feature a wide selection of animals. Staff are friendly and enthusiastic. Exhibits feature clever theming and immersive architecture, with decorative touches that add to the experience. There are lots of ponds and waterfalls. Now if the zoo could add a splash pad and/or misters in the park. Finally, there seem to be some green efforts--they no longer give out straws at concessions, plastic bags at the gift shop, or paper maps. We will return and recommend to others.
