Great walk (5km forth and 5 back, start at the main road) It is not necessary at all to go early in the morning, although it is a little cooler. With 5 people, we did it very slowly in 4 hours, because Indonesians are very unfamiliar with hiking. Even in that manner, that they want to drive a car or scooters up a trail that is too steep and too muddy with a little rain. I saw them both got stuck.... And ofcourse accompanied with taking unlimited goods and garbage to the top, leaving them there... My Indonesian (girl) friend during the walk, described this as "a different mind set and mentality". What a shame. "Begini Indonesia"!

Mesmerizing view worth to see
Batu Dinding or they call it Great Wall (not in China) natural made is a bit far from Balikpapan town, 45 km then turn left to the small sign.You will find a small road heading to it. The road can be a bit hard and slippery especially after rain, so please make sure you use a car in good condition and ready for a bit of offroad path. You can also use motorcycle to reach the peak, so you don't have to walk longer. To catch the sunrise, you'd better start your journey at 4am or you can go camping at the area, just make sure you have everything you need with you, as there are no store to buy things. Hiking a bit harder for some people, but when you are at the top, then you know it's worth it. The view of rain forest in the mist, the sun rises, the wind that blows your ear, all are breathtaking. Some people left their marks on the stones (what a CON!) that made this area looks sad.

Travel when was not raining the day before!
We went to Batu Dinding on foot. It was muddy and very unpleasant! Chasing the sunrise view, we hurried to the top of the peak and it was crowded. Some of the garbage can be seen all over the place (sad). Nevertheless it was quite an amazing view, you can see tropical rainforest of Balikpapan on the top of the Batu Dinding. Quite a pleasant suprise!
