Important exhibit on Nanjing history

The exhibit is huge, with lots of information about the history at the time and events leading up to the Nanjing massacre. Highly recommend visiting to learn about the history of Nanjing. It was easy to get in - the guides were very helpful and helped us reserve a time slot etc on the Chinese app.

    A sobering must-see
Perhaps the most impressive museum experience I’ve been to in China— the memorial is so well done and informative. My husband & I had been trying to visit for many years, but only recently had the chance thanks to the lifting of the Covid restrictions. It’s important to plan ahead— tickets can be purchased through the website. Foreigners need their passports, as well. Overall, my husband & I are very grateful to have spent several hours at the memorial, learning more about the history and resilience of the city of Nanjing.

    Difficult History - Told Well
This memorial is easy to get to via subway. Be prepared to bring your local ID card or passport and to walk for quite a long distance. The museum will make you sad to be human and sick at all the suffering caused by the Japanese military in the 1930s. Nonetheless, the museum tries to give a positive spin to things, by featuring people who sought to save residents during the massacre, the efforts of journalists to tell the real story of the massacre to the outside world, and efforts to create peace after the war.
