Suzhou Garden Museum, Jiangsu, China

4.5 (108 reviews) Sunday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent Ranking #22 in Suzhou Speciality Museums

Come here before you visit actual gardens

This is a great museum to prepare your visit to actual classical gardens of Suzhou. There are docents who do free guided tours at certain times of the day. The museum did a great job dissecting key components of Suzhou's classical gardens so you know what to look for when you actually visit one.

An nice introduction to the gardens of Suzhou (and should not be confused with Suzhou Museum)
Squeezed between Suzhou Museum and the Humble Administrator's Garden, the Suzhou Garden Museum gives a free introduction to the gardens of Suzhou, explains why and how they came to be, and includes interesting old photograps depicting what states of disrepair they fell into before they were restored. The museum is small and unlikely to detain you for long. It has a scale model of the Humble Administrator's Garden, which may help you make up your mind whether to fork out 90元 to see the real thing. (Many of the earlier reviewers describe not Suzhou Garden Museum, but Suzhou Museum, and the visitor photos reflect this.)

Nice museum in the middle of oldtown
This was nice museum in the middle of the oldtown Suzhou. Liked that it gave quite much insight to the history of gardens in Suzhou/China and also had good information for the main gardens nowadays available. Good place to visit when planning visits to actual gardens & the Humble administrator's garden is right next door. Allmost all signage / information is also in English too. No entrance fee & not too busy.
