A museum out of the ordinary
Plan to spend many hours in this museum. This is a unique museum showing non-imperial Chinese artifacts from thousands of years ago to the 20th century. The collection has many items that you will not see elsewhere. Most of it is available to touch and examine closely. The focus is on wealthy family home furnishings and religious items. Something you rarely see inside or outside China. An enthusiastic private English-speaking guide is available to enrich the experience. The museum/hotel restaurant has great local food and is well worth stopping by for lunch or dinner.

Just incredible - an amazing find.
I usually make a point of visiting museums wherever I go. Although most are generally interesting and worth a look I don’t think I’ve ever been bowled over by one before. I have now - the exhibits, lighting, ambiance and sheer attention to detail was fabulous (I didn’t take a photo of the restrooms - but I did think about it!). Ok, it’s not exactly super easy to get to - but if the opportunity presents itself then don’t hesitate to go. Excepting the building itself (an old factory I believe) this is the Guggenheim of China (and yes, I have been to the Guggenheim Museum too).
