Impressive architecture and piece of history
Comparable to Xi'ian City Wall, we were amazed by the architecture and history of the place. Went for a long walk in both directions and also visited the City Wall Museum nearby. Great way to spend a morning or afternoon in Nanjing.

Views of the City
We took a day trip to Nanjing from Shanghai and saw parts of the wall in multiple locations. It was great to have personal guides who spoke English and could give us the history. We visited shortly after the Chinese New Year/Lantern Festival and many lanterns were still up on the wall. Many were very large, which was surprising to us. We were told that brickmakers from across the country made the bricks and each brick had the maker's mark on it. If a brick arrived broken, the brickmaker had a second chance to make the bricks, and if they arrived broken a second time they were most likely executed.

Great Views of Nanjing and Xuanwu Lake
The wall is pretty tall for a city wall and has some great views of the xity. We first saw the wall in the Ming Tomb area and climbed on to it in the Xuanwu Lake area near Jimingsi metro station. The price to get on the wall is 30 RMB and it offers some really good views of the surrounding areas. Not many bathrooms up there so do plan to go before going on or wait until the end. The path is uneven so bring a good pair of shoes.
