Jinji Lake, Jiangsu, China

Exemplary Chinese urban lake and green environment
Jinji (Golden Chicken) Lake gives oxygen to Suzhou. The lake feels large enough to be like a sea but you can walk round it briskly in less than 3 hours (follow the "Fitness Trail"). Inevitably quite crowded on/near the plaza in front of the famous "Big Trousers" skyscraper, you can excape the throng quite fast. Architecture around the lake is generally attractive - and dramatically lit up in the evening. Restaurants/cafes either near the plaza or especially near the Culture & Arts Centre, also on East side (Western) or SW section. Boat trips available and I believe you can visit the island in the middle with a pagoda. If you are well-heeled, try staying at the ship-shaped Crowne Plaza (v good) on NW shore. Just a pity that the famous fountain show has been cancelled for 18 months

Beautiful at night
We came here at night and it was beautifully lit up. There were quite a few majestic and tall buildings brightly lit up with neon and led lights. We were hoping to catch the musical fountain show but alas, it was cancelled due to maintenance. Supposed to be held on Friday nights, holidays and festivals. Nevertheless, it was relaxing just to sit around and enjoy the cool breeze and night lights beside the lake. Lots of people, especially youngsters were milling around. Very relaxing place. Suggest you bring some drinks and snacks while you relax and enjoy the views. Very near the metro station.

Nice Lake with a Few Activities
We went here to see the Oriental Arc and enjoyed walking the boardwalk. We also lucked out on a Thursday night and saw them testing the fountains in the area. If you get there a clear night you could probably get some really good views of the area. There are many places to pop in for food or a drink nearby and the area is lined with quite a few metro stations. The closest metro to the arc and the fountains is Dongfangzhimen.
