Parangtritis Beach, Java, Indonesia

3.5 (324 reviews) Spent Ranking #2 in Yogyakarta Region Beaches

still the best

Since Pantai Parangtritis is very open space for public, I guess I have to find the way to enjoy this beach. I usually arrived here at 4 or 4.30 pm and waiting for the sunset. Don't expect less people there, so I always make 'a private space' with my daughter and not getting close with other people.

Beautiful beach with a famous myth about Nyi Roro Kidul
Parangtritis is one of beaches that associated with Nyi Roro Kidul. Nyi Loro Kidul is a legendary Indonesian female spirit or deity, known as the Queen of the Southern Sea of Java (Indian Ocean or Samudra Kidul south of Java island) in Javanese and Sundanese mythology. There is a local belief that wearing a green garment in these areas will anger her and will bring misfortune on the wearer, as green is her sacred color. When I visited Parangtritis beach, I was wearing a green shirt to show my braveness and challenge, but nothing bad happened to me :) Regardless of the myth, Parangtritis is one of beautiful beaches in Yogyakarta. We can explore the beauty of Parangtritis by walking, or you can ride a delman, bike, ATV, etc. There's a big stone in Parangtritis beach, it looks like a creature ^^, good and unique. Try to find it if you visit Parangtritis beach :) The problem is the public transportation (bus and it's not Trans Jogja bus) from main city of Yogyakarta to Parangtritis beach vice versa. The bus driver or his assistant usually will ask non-Yogyakarta (local and foreigners) passengers more expensive price than it should be. Just beware of it. I hope there will be no markup price anymore in the public transportation. p.s. Check my Flickr to see photos of Parangtritis and many more! I wrote my Flickr link on my TripAdvisor profile, just check it out if you interested :)

    Nice beach, if you leave...
Very busy at the entrance of the beach with lots of shops and warungs. Shocking to see painted living small crabs for selling. There is the possibity to rent any kind of vehicle, from trikes to horse carriage. Nice beach, if you leave the crowd at the entrance point behind. It was quite dirty where all the locals are if you go further away along the beach it's much cleaner. But too bad that most Indonesian people are not aware what they are doing with theire trash to nature. If you are proud of your country, keep it clean! It's very windy there, but that was refreshing. This beach is not really for swimming, but nice for a long walk.
