    Grand Javanese Palace
Having lived in Bali for many years, it is nice to see how other indonesia palaces look like. Pura Mangkunegaran's main structure which is the Joglo (javanese open air wooden structure) is said to be the largest joglo in Indonesia. What is nice is not only the guide explained on the history of the royal family and the palace, but also the philosophy behind every part of the structure. I can not imagine how grand the settings was 200 years ago. I was also lucky to meet the oldest "abdi dalam" (servants of of the royal family) who is now 96 years old and still doing her task of making offerings in the palace! I think it is one of the must-visit!

    Need a Capable Guide
The Mangkunegaran Palace was used to be my weekly hanging place for the Gamelan ( Javanese music) when I was still in the college. I used to bring foreigner friends to see the Traditional Javanese dance. The palace is beautiful and well managed. The museum is small but the guide was not really capable to tell with interest. Maybe he knew a lot about the museum and the palace but he told us very little until we asked something and he would answer it. Bring your socks if you don't want to walk on your bare feet as a part of the museum the shoes are not allowed. Cheap entrance fee.
