This is a don't miss stop while in the old downtown PV. It is beautiful.
This church dominates the skyline of old downtown PV. We visited on New Year's Day 2022. We are not Catholic, but enjoy viewing the architecture and learning about the history of such buildings. In front of the church is a beautiful and shaded plaza. The church we see now is nt the original church built on this location. The first church was built in 1883. For the church we see now, the existing foundations were strengthened and finished by 1917, including the main pillars and walls. Construction really began in earnest in the early 1920s around the still functioning chapel, including the blessing of the Eucharistic or the major bell in 1926. The official start date, celebrated at the church each year with a mass, is October 12, 1921. To “crown” the Parish, what better than a crown. It was built in 1963 and placed on the main tower in 1965 (based on the city historian, Carlos Munguía Fregoso). It was sketched by the priest Rafael Parra Castillo, the same person who designed the tower. The original crown was designed and sculpted by José Esteban Ramírez Guareño in 1965. We entered the church to stand in awe of the interior, then walked around the outside where church members were selling mementos, books and rosaries. Anyone who visits the old downtown area will surely want to see this fantastic building regardless of religion.

    Beautiful Church, Worth Walking In
This is a beautiful church both inside and out. It is worth walking in to walk around and look at the beautiful detail. This is a working church still so there may be people inside paying respects (as they were when we were there) so keep noise levels low and respect their time as well. We were in and out in only a few minutes. They did ask for donations for the church when we walked in so we put a few pesos in the container as well.
