Beautiful views and attractions but pretty touristy in parts

This pedestrian-only boardwalk spans 12 blocks and is peppered with oceanfront eateries, tequila bars, and vendors selling street food—sip on a margarita as you take in the stunning ocean views. Also, check out the vendors selling regional handicrafts and traditional sweets. Travelers come from all over for the art exhibitions and buzzing nightlife. During your stroll along the ocean, you'll come across impressive bronze sculptures and street performers like the acrobatic spectacle of Voladores de Papantla. Hit the boardwalk early for a spectacular sunrise and snap a photo with the vibrant block-lettered sign of Puerto Vallarta as a holiday keepsake. – Tripadvisor

The Malecon was incredible to experience with my wife on our trip to PV. The views and design are 10/10 and some of the food places (La Vitea, La Palapa, La Langosta Loca, NOROC) were incredible. My only gripe is that in certain parts, it feels like a Mexican version of an American boardwalk (i.e. boring trinket stores, huge crowds, non-local chains). It's easy to avoid those and just move on so don't let that distract you from just how nice this place is. Super safe and we got to see La Catrina in all of her beauty for the Dia de Los Muertos festival and it was a sight to behold (three-story catrina statue with dress, hat, and everything that was lit up like a Christmas tree in the main part of the Malecon). Highly recommend anyone coming to town for their first trip take a stroll down the Malecon to take it all in (especially at sunrise or sunset).

    Always a good time!
We enjoy the malecon! There is always something to do or something new to look at, day or night. My favorite are the indigenous dancers and the voladores de paplanta (photo below.) Please tip these folks if you enjoy their performances and sharing of their beautiful culture. Be aware that the all prices for shopping or dining are inflated from similar options located just one or two streets away from the waterfront. However, I highly recommend you check out the free tequila tasting at Oscars and the small market off of the bridge nearby. The malecon can be crowded during high season, but not so much now with COVID still present and I was surprised by the high rate of compliance with masks/cubrebocas.
